WHITCHURCH Alport have a successful season firmly in their sights after a comeback win at City of Liverpool took them joint-top with their hosts.

After a frustrating draw at home to Sandbach last weekend, Alport's 3-2 win last night, courtesy of a Michael Blundell double and Dean Twigg.

The win stretches their unbeaten run to five games, and 13 points from 15 available.

Blundell gave Alport the lead on 33 minutes before a Thomas Peterson penalty (61) and an Andrew Fowler goal put Liverpool in the driving seat.

However, on 81 minutes, Twigg gave the Alport men hope, before Blundell's spot kick two minutes from time wraped up the hugely-impressive away win.

That leaves ALport level pegging with Liverpool on 25 points, and in second spot on goal difference.

Joint managers Luke Goddard and Carl Everall will no doubt be pleased with just one league defeat from their past seven games, in a month that looked very tough on paper.

A point on Saturday means Alport have picked up a total of 10 points from a possible 12 available for the month of September, with one game remaining.

And Goddard was keen to remind everyone how far the club has come in such a short space of time

“We were all disappointed on Saturday – it was a game we should have won comfortably and that we  dominated, despite not being at our sparkling best.

“However, we picked up just a point in the end and we move on to a huge game against City of Liverpool.

“Internally we have our targets as a club and, yes, results have been very good.

“But that brings added expectation from everyone, including the supporters, and we must all remain focused on improving the whole football club at a pace that is sustainable.

“It’s irrelevant how we get the points and who they come against as long as we keep hitting our targets."
