A FAMILY-RUN charitable trust has revealed plans to provide independent living accommodation in Prees. The eight single-bedroom non-market properties would be maintained by the Grocott Family Charitable Trust, established by the owners of Whitchurch-based haulage and storage firm Grocontinental, and would be aimed at older people with a link to the firm. The estate would be based alongside the village’s recently-built medical centre, to which the trust gave a £1 million donation. Ray Grocott said it was a way for his family to give something back to the village where they have always lived. He continued: “These won’t be affordable homes – they will be for people with a link to our business and our family. “For many years I have been trying to do something like this for people because what has happened in the past is that all the older people have been moved to Wem, but now they will be able to stay in Prees.” A statement on the planning portal adds that the development will “maintain a link with the community, the close-knit design of the development will give a sense of place”. It adds: “The dwellings will be retained by the trust and managed by an experienced team, providing support to residents to suit their needs. “Providing sustainable residential accommodation for older people addresses an increasing need for this type of accommodation by an ageing population, to the benefit of the local community.” The planning application also outlines eight parking spaces. A decision is expected from Shropshire Council by March 23.
