Scott is the great provider for Alport
WHITCHURCH Alport registered a hard-earned 4-2 win at Broadheath Central marked by a sterling display by man-of- the-match Scott Thomas.
Alport opened the scoring on 15 minutes after Thomas whipped the ball in from the right for Chris Suddaby to head the ball home.
Within minutes, Broadheath had restored parity but on 35 minutes, another Thomas cross, this time from a corner, was headed in by skipper Derryl Thornton and Alport went into the break 2-1 up.
They added a third after the interval when midfielder Tom Price played a ball through for striker Tom Butler to score.
Broadheath pulled one back before Thomas made it a hat-trick of assists, playing in Martin Chesters who smashed the ball into the net to make sure of the three points and put Alport back in the league’s leading pack.
Alport’s next game is at home to Lostock Gralam on Saturday at 2.15pm (free admission).
Alport Reserves’ Ron Jones Memorial Cup clash versus Clee Hill was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
They travel to Morda Reserves on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
Alport U18s crashed out of the Umbro Cup, losing 5-3 after extra time away to Oswestry Boys. Goals from Dan Jones, Jordan Maclean and Matt Jones were not enough to see them through.
Alport U8s stormed to an 8-2 victory over Saha thanks to goals from MoM Isaac Dawson (2), hat-trick hero Alex Cadman, Nathan Pilsbury (2) and Elliot Jones.
Alport U9s enjoyed similar success, this time with a 7-2 win at home to Prees.
Doubles from MoM Callum Winstone, David Denman and Charles Davies plus a strike from Harrison Bickley secured a convincing win.
Elsewhere, Alport U12 Girls beat Saha 6-1.
The visitors put up a fight but tiredness set in and Alport ran away with the game. There were four goals from Abbie Viner – including the goal of the match from 25 yards – another 25-yarder this time by Hannah Shone and a cracker from PoM Ellie Dickin rounded off a great day for Alport.
Ellesmere Rangers travelled to a very muddy pitch to play Heath Town Rangers. They played their best football of the season in a one- sided game which they won 2-0, although it could have been a lot more.
Ed Shone did not have a shot to save all game for Rangers as their defence was sound.
Up front Eddie Hope and Danny Barton were in great form, holding the ball.
Pacy Kenny Paul opened the scoring after 15 minutes, chesting down a Barton pass and volleying into the top corner.
Soon afterwards he doubled his tally, beating three players before again shooting into the top corner for Rangers’ second.
Rangers continued to press in the second half but Heath Town held firm, helped by a small slice of luck.
Paul almost had a hat-trick but was brought down in the area.
The Heath Town player was sent off but Danny Barton’s poor spot- kick was easily saved. Eddie Hope was named MoM.
Ellesmere Rangers are at home to Ledbury Town on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
Cheshire League side Malpas are without a game this weekend. Last Saturday’s match against Poynton was called off.
The first round of the John Davies Charity Cup saw a thrilling 3-3 encounter decided on penalties.
Home side Kinnerley eventually beat Prees United, putting their league worries to one side.
The sides cancelled each other out and the bad weather made the game very heavy on the feet but Kinnerley’s player/manager Barry Taylor led the way, scoring two goals. Striker Gareth Morgan netted Kinnerley’s third.
Prees responded through Andy Bradbury, Martin Williams and John Groom to take the tie into extra time.
With the pitch making it increasingly difficult for both sides a penalty shootout was inevitable.
Kinnerley came out on top and into the second round and they will be hoping a cup run can boost their league form.
A late goal for Randley Colts U10s in extra time sank Prees Tigers U10s, ending the Tigers’ County Cup dreams for another year. Colts won 2-1 and MoM was Joe Kinsella.
