Motorcycling: Whitchurch team leads way for double triumph

A RACING team from Whitchurch is celebrating an unprecedented double victory.

The BMC Racing motorcycle team, based at Whitchurch Business Park, won a double championship with the East Midlands Racing Association (EMRA) at Mallory Park.

It is the first time such a feat has been achieved on two separate machines.

At the team’s heart are racing brothers Richard and Mike Dorey, and Richard says competing on the track is only part of what they do.

He said: “It is an important part of understanding bike set-ups and how they need to be prepared, but Leon Jeacock is our main rider.

“He is a 19-year-old up-and-coming rider who has only been racing a couple of years but is a very quick learner who has gone from strength to strength throughout the season.

“His aim was to win the Formula 400 championship with the EMRA which we did quite convincingly.

“The Superstock 600 championship that he won was an event that Leon joined on the third round of the championship to win both races.

“Since then he has put in some very consistent results to bring the title home. He has also been running in the Thundersport Championship coming third. He really is a rider of the future.”

Richard’s brother Mike is the engineer and prepares all the race bikes, as well as racing them. The brothers also tune and prepare bikes for other racers. Father Brian’s bus iness role is crucial while Richard also takes care of marketing.

As a rider, Mike achieved third place in the Formula 400 championship, so not only can he tune and prepare a quality race bike, he can ride one too.

The team plan to enter rounds of the national Superstock 600 championship – a support race for the British Superbike Championship – next season with Leon as the rider.

“It will be a big step up for us and one that we can't wait to get stuck in to,” adds Richard.
