Cameras at classy finale

BANGOR-ON-DEE’S final Saturday race meeting of 2008 will be staged this weekend – and course officials are braced for one of the busiest days of the year.

Channel 4 will be there to cover two of the seven races on the card for totesport Day, which sees gates open at 11.30am for the first race at 1.50pm.

The feature race is the toteswinger Handicap Steeplechase at 2.25pm, a class three race with a £22,000 prize fund.

Jeannie Chantler, general manager for Bangor-on-Dee racecourse, said: “We’re all really looking forward to Saturday, which promises to be an action-packed day’s racing for everyone. There are 218 entries for the day, including a number from the Michael Hourigan yard in Ireland.

“Bangor’s usual support from the trainers continues with entries from Jonjo O’Neill, Nigel Twiston Davies, Paul Nicholls, David Pipe, Donald McCain, Alan King and Richard Phillips.”

Declarations for runners will be completed tomorrow morning.

There will be a free bus from Wrexham General Station to the racecourse at 12.20pm.
