Alport stroll to cup victory

ALPORT enjoyed a smooth passage into round two of the Shropshire County Cup on Saturday as they chalked up a handsome away win.
The visitors opened their account after only five minutes when Rhys Nevett notched his third goal in three games.
It was 2-0 five minutes later as Nevett and strike partner Martin Chesters combined for the latter to score.
The second half saw Lee Stephens’ corner headed into his own net by a Newport player, meaning there was no way back for the home side.
Gavin Brocklehurst and Wes Newton both hit the post from long range before Stephens netted goal number four.
Chris Suddaby was Alport’s man of the match.
Whitchurch host Monk on Saturday (3pm).
Whitchurch Alport Res 2 Oakengates Ath 1: A hard- fought contest played in difficult conditions saw Alport win despite struggling to find their form.
Alport took the lead in the 30 minute through a Rob Morris penalty after Phil Downey’s cross had been handled.
Athletic levelled in the 48 minute and went on to dominate the second period. But they found the Alport defence difficult to break down, with Ben Woods and star man Andy Edge in top form.
Alport snatched all three points when sub Ben Edge showed good close control and drilled home from 18 yards in the 85th minute.
Alport’s second string travel to Wrockwardine Wood Reserves in the Shropshire Junior Cup on Saturday.

Alport U11 13 Meresiders 1: Alport romped home thanks to goals from Daniel Sherwood (5), MoM Kieren Williams (5), Will Stokes, Adam Jenkins and Lewis Evans.
Alport U10 5 Shrewsbury Colts 3: Alport came out on top with some great goals from Luke Bailey, Ben Sawson and a hat-trick from left-back MoM Alister Marchbank-Smith.
Alport U9 6 Prees 2: MoM Callum Winstone (3), Charlie Davies (2) and one from Will Jesson capped off a good display.
