Sun shines on Whitchurch Boat Rally

THE weekend’s glorious weather paved the way for the best Whitchurch Boat Rally for many years.

Scores of boats assembled along the Whitchurch Canal arm during last week in time for the event, and on Saturday morning the towpath was buzzing with boaters and visitors.

Numerous stalls added to the atmosphere, as did a Victorian dress competition.

On Sunday the decorated boats were judged, and the winners were Sue and Peter Collins of Whitchurch with their Alice in Wonderland-themed boat, Bliss.

A well-attended dog show on Sunday was judged by Leonard Bros vets.

The event made about £1,500 profit.

Waterway Trust’s rally committee chairman, Mike Parsonage, said: “It was a fantastic weekend, the best we’ve seen for very many years.

“Funds were raised to support the maintenance of the canal arm, and also for the proposed Whitchurch Water Park.”
