Pupils and families from Tushingham with Grindley C of E Primary came together for a night under the stars to raise money for the school.

They all came together at Fields Farm in Whitchurch, enjoying plenty of activities and fun including a horse and pony care event, where everyone enjoyed learning all about the animals, plus a cheese-rolling event for the dads to celebrate Fathers Day.

Every child who attended last week came away captivated and in proud possession of their very own precious medal and rosette, while those who dared to were able to ride the mighty Clyde, a huge gelding standing at 17.2hh who is 23 years old and is national dressage-to- music champion.

Nicola Smith, chair of Friends of Tushingham, said: “We were delighted with the day’s events and a huge thank you goes to our committee, Dave Wilkinson and Natasha Williamson and to all of our local suppliers for supporting such a fantastic cause in our community.

“To Cindy and Tim Byatt of Maypole Tipi Ltd for donating the use of their beautiful tipi, to Rachel Holland and her team (Becky Tee, a vet from Leahurst University), Morwenna Trevanion and Tushingham school pupil Lucy Knight and for the gorgeous horses, Tiger, Coco and Little May of course.

“To Belton Farm for their enormous cheeses and for their very kind prize donations, to Jonathan Markwood and SKB Band for the music, Steve Chesworth, Chris James and Paul May for their outstanding live performances.

“Last but by no means least, to everyone who came on the day and made it a day and night to remember.

“The sun shone brightly at a mere 30 degrees at times – a future occasion not to be missed.”

The event was to support fundraising for the eagerly-awaited Tushingham School Track – a much-needed, all-weather track that will be used throughout the school year, incorporating the daily mile initiative.
