Whitchurch U15s and & 14s are set play in the semi finals of the North Midlands Cup this weekend (15 April) against local rivals Newport and Worcester respectively. The U15s are celebrating their most successful season to date where they have gone undefeated in all competitions, but now face local rivals at home in the semi finals of the North Midlands Cup.

The North Midlands Cup is a knock out competition of rugby clubs across Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Greater Birmingham and Shropshire. To reach the semi finals Whitchurch U15s have defeated strong teams from Telford, Birmingham Solihull and Redditch; while the U14s defeated Bournville and Shrewsbury to set up a clash with Worcester at home.

Both games are scheduled to take place this Sunday 15 April from 10am at Whitchurch’s Edgeley Park ground and the teams are hoping for the extra support of a strong and vocal home crowd.

Louis Hill, coach of the Whitchurch U15s comments; “This is a big game for the boys as they look to protect their undefeated season and reach the finals of the North Midlands Cup. They’ve had a fantastic season by playing together as a team and sharing a collective will to win and desire to do their home town proud. There would be no better cherry on the cake than beating a strong local Newport side to reach the final.”

The U14s have also trained hard to create a strong and successful team, many of whom have also achieved representative success with Worcester Warriors and Shropshire. Louis adds; “If you’re available on Sunday morning please come down and give the lads some support on what promises to be an excellent display of junior rugby.”

Kids that are interested in joining Whitchurch Rugby Club and experiencing the game for themselves are encouraged to pop along at the start of next season which begins on the first Sunday on September.
