WHITCHURCH will be looking to finish their Midlands 1 West campaign with a flourish when they resume hostilities at home to Worcester Wanderers on Saturday. Having halted a three-match losing run with a welcome 33-3 victory against struggling Walsall in their last action two weeks back, the Reds will now look to maintain the momentum against a side who lie one place above in sixth. After that they will have a chance to influence the title race with games against the top two sides, first away to second-placed Bournville on April 9 before completing the league season at home to leaders Bridgnorth the following week. So there is plenty to play for, particularly with places up for grabs ahead of the North Mids Plate final with Bromsgrove in May when Whitchurch will look to finish with some silverware. The Reds will have high hopes of a victory this weekend against their Worcester visitors who have lost their last two games, including a shock 25-15 reverse against lowly Walsall. The North Shropshire men won 8-3 away from home in the reverse fixture back in December. Whitchurch coach Scott Sturdy feels his side's next three league games will be the perfect build-up to the West Mids Plate final showdown with Bromsgrove. “Worcester is a step up again, and then we’ve got two very difficult games against the top two, Bournville and Bridgnorth, to finish, before taking on a strong Bromsgrove who are a National League division three side,” he said. *For more news on Whitchurch Rugby Club, see this week's Whitchurch Herald.
