The members of the Hollies Tennis Club in Whitchurch have battled through all weathers this winter until Tuesday last week when they eventually had to surrender to a combination of the 'Beast from the East' and Storm Emma.

But that wasn't until they had played their twice postponed junior fun tournament that was scheduled for Christmas and then the New Year.

On a very cold but sunny Sunday afternoon, eight children aged between five and 10 years along with their parents eventually managed to play. There was lots of fun and laughter and great sportsmanship between the players. Owen Shrimplin with his dad Mike narrowly beat Austin Edwards and his dad Will to take the bragging rights.

The season starts on March 12 with ladies practice on Mondays and Thursdays at 7pm and men’s practice on Sunday at 9.30am and Tuesdays at 7pm.

The club will be hosting a Great British Tennis week again this year. The coaching programme will continue to be delivered by Inspire2coach for both children and adults.
