Whitchurch Alport have crashed out of the Shropshire Premier Cup after suffering a shock extra-time defeat to 10-man Newport Town.
The West Midlands Regional League Division One side stunned Alport when Jay Russell let fly a 30-yarder which dipped in under the bar to break Alport hearts on the stroke of the half-time in extra-time.
Luke Goddard's men took the lead on the stroke on half-time through Nicky Porter six minutes after Liam Bould was sent off for Town.
But with 15 minutes left, Simon Jackson levelled for Town to force extra-time.
Alport chairman Ryan Jardine tweeted after the match: "Not to be. Let’s dust ourselves down. Rise to the challenge of the promotion push. We are the little town of Whitchurch not Man City.... we stick together, we win together and lose together. Together we can do it! @alportfc thanks for your support as always."
Alport's hopes of automatic promotion are slim but Goddard will be hoping to focus their minds on a tough play-off campaign.
