Ellesmere Rangers 0

Highgate United FC 7

Ellesmere Rangers crashed out of the FA Vase at the first hurdle, well beaten and demoralised by their Sutton Coldfield based visitors.

Two up after 10 minutes through Connor Mooney and Isaac Jagroop, the Midland Premier League side never took their foot off the gas to allow their hosts back into the game.

A goal-line clearance by Rangers’ defender Charlie Fletcher merely delayed the inevitable and Lei Brown headed a third and quickly netted a fourth with a scruffy shot which Rangers’ keeper Ben Astley-Shaw allowed to squirm under his arm and trundle into the net.

And 15 minutes from time they clicked into goalscoring mode again and old boy Marco Adaggio came back to haunt Rangers, slotting home from the edge of the box as Rangers’ defence switched off.

Lei Brown added the sixth and completed his hat-trick with a tidy finish and Adaggio rounded off the scoring with a near post goal.

On Saturday Ellesmere have an away league fixture at Shifnal Town with a 3pm kick-off.

Wem Town 3

Willenhall Town 0

The Bowensfield men picked up all three points in their home West Midlands Regional League clash with second from bottom Willenhall.

Wem recorded their second win in five games and went some way to reducing their negative goal difference so early into the season.

They return to home form again on Saturday as they host Kington Town for a 3pm kick off.

Shifnal 97 1

Prees 3

Prees had to come from behind to take the points on Saturday afternoon to maintain their 100 per cent start in the Mercian Regional League.

In a slow start, Jamie Parry was caught napping and was adjudged of bringing down the home Shifnal striker and the ref pointed to the spot which they coolly converted.

Despite plenty of the ball, Prees failed to create chances and went into the break behind.

However, the second half brought a much more driven Prees side and with the first move of the half saw combative midfielder Richard James Dodd fouled on the edge of the box.

Louis Williams got his radar right and fired in the equaliser from 22 yards; the game carried on the same way with Prees dominating procession but not being able to take the lead with Matt Baldwin and Sam Jackson coming close.

Finally the pressure told after some good work down the right from front man Liam Moore found his strike partner Tom Clive in the six-yard-box who with a very inventive finish gave the traveling side the lead.

Williams sealed the win late on, leading boss Dan Blackhurst satisfied.

He said: “We were far from our best today in the first half, but the lads knew if they upped it 20 per cent all over the pitch, we’d turn it around and credit to them that’s what they did.”

Next week, Prees play their first home game season against Clee Hill – 3pm kick-off.
