Striker Ben Mills returned to action on Saturday after missing a couple of months of the campaign through injury.

And the number 10 was delighted to get some game time under his belt in the friendly against Congleton Vale.

He said: “It’s been a frustrating period and I know I’ll have to work hard to get my place back.

“I’d done my medial ligament in my knee. I had an MRI scan but thankfully the injury didn’t require surgery and I’ve been advised to step up the recovery work and not to hold back.

“I’ve been doing a bit of running and worked hard at a couple of training sessions but it was great to get back playing.”

Mills started the season well, topping the goalscoring charts at Yockings Park in the opening weeks of the campaign.

And he was delighted to get back on the goal trail on Saturday – albeit in what was little more than a training game.

He said: “The goal was a nice bonus and I want to be involved over the Christmas period, so I’ll be doing all I can to force my way back into the manager’s thoughts.

“We needed that game to blow away a few cobwebs and not many of our rivals will have been able to do that.

“We’ve three matches coming up over Christmas and if we can win them, that will mean we will have every right to approach the new year with renewed confidence. I hope Whitchurch supporters turn out in their numbers and help us to try to climb the table and put pressure on those clubs around us.”
