WHITCHURCH skipper Alex Huxley has called for “more of the same” as his side enter the final stage of the season with a 25-point lead in the Premier Division of the Shropshire Cricket League.

Huxley was unavailable for Saturday’s excellent 42-run victory over Quatt – a result which was boosted by a defeat for Whitchurch’s closest challengers Worfield.

But he returns for this weekend’s trip to Broseley as the league reverts to the win-lose-draw format for the last six matches.

“We’ve done well so far, and from here on it’s a question of keeping our concentration and making one final push,” said Huxley.

“If we carry on as before, we’ll be fine – it’s a question of keeping clear heads and doing what we have to do.”

Another fine innings by keeper Connor Tinsley helped Whitchurch post an imposing total of 246 against Quatt.

Tinsley, batting at number eight, blasted 46 off 41 balls, and he received good support from Kris Ali (34), Vansh Bajaj (31), Will Doerr (23) and Ijaz Yousuf (20).

Yousuf then took centre stage with the ball, picking up 5-26 after Terry Hughes (69) and Ryan Wheldon (59) had put Quatt in a strong positition.

There were two wickets apiece for Dan Bowen and Sam Ellis as Quatt were bowled out for 204.

Huxley replaces Simon Bowen in the only change for Saturday’s game at Broseley.
