Simon Bowen and Simon Gregory both contributed with half centuries as they accumulated knocks of 52 and 53 respectively, and but for the inspired form of Manor bowler, Arfan Khan, their score of 224 from 54.3 overs could have been even greater.

Seam bowler Khan took advantage of the green wicket to dislodge seven of the Whitchurch batsmen as he ended the day with impressive figures of 7-42, but Whitchurch bowler, Amjaad Ali Khan, did his best to upstage him as he helped pick apart the Aston Manor batting order to register figures of 6-47.

Opener Darren Baker posted the visitors highest batting total of the day as he managed to run up 20, but his tally was not enough to kick start their innings at the crease as they were ultimately bowled out for a meagre 88 in less than 33 overs.

The victory gives Whitchurch their second win in the opening three games of the season to leave themselves just one place behind the Birmingham League leaders, and although there is a long way to go, they will hope that they can continue to mount a determined effort for the championship this year.

In reply Aston Manor were restricted to 136-9 due to a good bowling performance from Mark Tooze 4-26 and Elliott Bowen 2-30. There were outstanding fielding performance from the whole of the Whitchurch side.

Whitchurch 3rds v Shifnal 3rds

Whitchurch third team maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they took the points from a winning draw against Shifnal 3rds at the weekend.

Whitchurch climbed to an early total of 100-3 after being put into bat by the visitors, but they then slumped to 135 all out in 42 overs, despite Andy Rose (38) and Callum Beddows (37) leading the way early on in the innings.

However Shifnal never really looked like capitalising on the work of their bowlers, and failed to chase the runs down before they finally succumbed to 199-8 off 48 overs.

Chris Brothwood and John Clayton both took three wickets apiece to demolish the spine of the Shifnal attack, and the home side profited from 13 points in preparation for their visit to Oswestry 3rds, this Saturday.
