BIRMINGHAM & DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

Whitchurch put themselves in at the crease and took full advantage of the wicket against the side who had been playing in the first division last year, with Maisam Hasnain (88) and Simon Bowen (87) putting together an opening partnership of 141.

Richard Oliver’s 61, and a flurry of boundaries from Amjaad Alikhan, who reached 50 not out, helped Whitchurch post an imposing 339 for three of their 55 overs, which was made an even more daunting prospect when Dan Bowen bowled Harbourne opener, Greg Easter, in the first over of their innings.

Anthony Hill led the bowling attack to finish the day wit figures of 4-52, which included the scalp of former Indian Test cricketer, Shiv Sunder Das, for 15, as the home side fell into disarray on 117 for 6.

They did however manage to recover to reach 208-7 from their 55 overs, as Whitchurch gained 10 points from a winning draw to end the day as table toppers.

Next weekend’s fixtures see’s the Whitchurch First Team play Bridgnorth at home, on Saturday before visiting Ombersley on Bank Holiday Monday.
