FOOTBALL: Sunday league round-up - 01.12.09

TWO more sides beat the weather conditions and progressed to the next round of the North East Wales Bob Williams Challenge Cup.

Halfway Inn, Caergwrle took on the Black Horse at Castell Alun and ran out 8-0 winners.

Ben Stennett got the opener and he was quickly joined on the score sheet by Ryan Edwards and Tom Crewe.

Allan Williams and Daniel Hooson made it 5-0 by the interval while keeper Ben Jones made some quality saves to keep a clean sheet and that enabled the Halfway to play fast, flowing football.

And it was no surprise when man of the match Tom Crewe completed his hat-trick in the second period and Allan Williams got his second.

The home defence was well marshalled by centre backs Graham Bessington and Ben Stennett.

The Corner Pin, from the Chester Sunday League, also progressed when opponents Ewloe Social Club failed to raise a team.

The Castle Inn moved into the semi-finals of the North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup following a 5-1 home win over Rhyl outfit the Barrels.

Brynley Preece had them two up before the visitors replied with a spot kick.

Preece, who normally plays on the wing, celebrated his move into the middle by netting his third before the interval to make it 3-1.

The same player added his fourth in the second half and Damien Samson got the fifth to make it all Deeside Sunday League teams in the semi-finals.

Only one Deeside Sunday League game survived the weather with the Boars Head, Ewloe defeating the Derwen Deg 4-1.

They led 2-0 at the break following a brace from man of the match Mark Atkinson.

The hosts continued in the same vein of form in the second half and extended the advantage to four with Anthony Weaver and top scorer Kevin Smart both netting.

The visitors came more into the game in the last 20 minutes and with the Deg keeper keeping them out at one end, Stuart Tarrant got a late consolation strike for the Derwen Deg.
