Ellesmere 10k Road Race

MORE than 400 runners descended on Ellesmere for the annual 10km road race, building on last year's success with hundreds more taking part.

The new flatter course took runners on a route from Lakelands School through the town centre, out alongside the mere and back along the canal, with local residents turning out to cheer the runners on along the course and an army of organisers and volunteers ensuring the race ran smoothly.

The race produced seasons' best performances from the top two athletes and a personal best time from Olympian Paul Jones, the first local runner home in a time of 34.28 minutes. Among the other great Oswestry results were season's bests for Charlotte Jones and Barbara Ward, first in her age group, while there were also personal best times for Olympians David Hughes and Simon Hibbott.

Organisers expressed their thanks to the event's local sponsors Stans Superstore, The Red Lion, Brynallt Kennels and Pets Pantry.
