WHITCHURCH'S Evelyn Jones believes playing Division One cricket with Lancashire will help her England ambitions.

The 24-year-old was relegated with Staffordshire last year, but Lancashire have made their move to sign the opening bat.

Evelyn said she had to consider the offer, plus from other counties, before making her decision and is looking forward to making her Lancs debut.

“Lancashire were one of a few counties to approach me before Christmas, and I wanted to play in Division One,” said Evelyn.

“Moving to Lancs was helped by the fact I can live here and travel up to Old Trafford as it’s only an hour away.

“It was good going to Old Trafford as a home player, and we get to use all the brilliant facilities they have.

“I’m going to be opening the batting – they’ve told me that. That’s ideal for me, as that’s where I want to be.

“The selectors look at Division One more, and as Staffordshire have gone down, I need to be in that division.”

Evelyn’s attentions have been with England, and she is targeting a successful spring and early summer.

She added: “It’s a World Cup year – it’s a short-term goal to be involved, and there are a few tours coming up to impress.”
