Two teenagers have been selected to represent Great Britain under 20s in Ultimate Frisbee.

Last September Olivia Hamer, from Nomansheath and Ellen Martin from Whitchurch were selected for the team and in less than one month they will be travelling to Waterloo in Canada to compete with the national team in the world ultimate championships from August 16-26.

The two 16-year-olds have trained hard over the last 10 months, with regular trainings with the team and coaches as well as competing in tournaments to prepare them for the opposition that they will face when playing the rest of the world.

Although the girls are playing at a national level, ultimate frisbee isn’t recognised by many people and therefore doesn’t have any funding.

This meant that Olivia and Ellen have had to raise the money themselves.

Olivia said: "Our thanks go to Powell Commercial, Total Boilers, Nomansheath Parish Council and Whitchurch Rotary Club.

"All of this sponsorship combined has helped to cover the costs of kit and travel. Both Ellen and myself are extremely appreciative of all that we have received."

The girls want to encourage people to follow the Twitter account @Britian_20 to keep updated on all of their progress whilst competing at the world championships.
