A WHITCHURCH tennis club took part in this year’s Great British Tennis Weekend.

Hollies Tennis Club on Tarporley Road, Whitchurch, hosted a fun day of tennis as part of the LTA initiative.

The idea behind the events is to raise awareness of tennis clubs in local communities, and to get as many people along as possible to give the sport a go.

It allows clubs to show to visitors what they have on offer, and the chance to get some people into the sport that may never have given it a go before they visited on the day.

This was the second GBTW event of the year with the LTA holding one in May.

The Hollies had coaches teaching children how to serve, volley, and strike balls into specific areas of the court.

The day was a great success according to a spokesperson at the club, who said they were surprised at how big the queues were to give tennis a go.

They said: “I’d like to thank everyone who came along to see what we have on offer here.

“It was another successful Great British Tennis Weekend here, we had lots of fun, lots of laughs and people seemed to really enjoy their time here.

“There were queues of people waiting to take their turn on the ball machine.

“It was great, people seemed like they didn’t want to leave, which is really nice to see.

“Thanks to our wonderful coaches and club members for keeping our guests busy all afternoon, the event wouldn’t be able to go ahead without their help.”
