Whitchurch Cricket Club is on the hunt for new players to step up to the crease as the new season approaches.
The club had an excellent year in 2017, bowling over all the competition to finish top of the pile and win promotion back to the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League.
The mission is now on to find players to help make sure Whitchurch stay in the league.
The club is appealing for players for their men’s and women’s senior and junior teams.
Whitchurch has two teams playing in the Birmingham League on Saturdays and a team playing in the Shropshire league on Sundays.
There is also a midweek team and junior cricket is available for children over six years old and kinder cricket for the younger ones.
Chairman of the cricket club, Rod Jones said: “We know it’s going to be challenging as there will be four new teams that have gained promotion as champions.
“Our main concern will be providing strength for our second and third teams. Both teams are very young and probably a year or two away from being promising players that we have coached ourselves.
“But we will embrace the challenge as we look to stabilise the club by using homegrown players.
“We are always on the look out for new players even if they only want to play occasionally.”
Whether you are new to the area and are looking to play, or if you are an old hand returning to the fold, Whitchurch Cricket Club wants to hear from you.
If you are interested in playing, email whitchurch.cricketclub@gmail.com or send a message to the Whitchurch Cricket Club Facebook page.
