West Midlands Regional League
Wem Town 4
Gornal Athletic 1
Wem Town have moved into a title battle after a comfortable home win over Gornal left them six points behind leaders Newport Town with two games in hand.
The Bowensfield men’s 10th win of the season came courtesy of goals from skipper Paddy Townsend, who grabbed a double, one from Jim Astley and an own goal.
Wem remain a point behind Worcester Raiders, having played the same number of games, and are part of a chasing pack of five clubs separated by only three points.
They head to mid-table Bromyard Town (3pm) on Saturday, knowing a win will only pile the pressure on the two teams ahead of them.
