The heat was on as the Firey Jacks C team from the Bradbury Day Centre in Whitchurch won the latest round of the Shropshire Boccia tournament.

Shropshire RCC and North Shropshire College in Oswestry teamed up to host the event at Oswestry Leisure Centre.

Ten teams coming from across the region to compete for medals with a chance to progress to the county final on October 19.

It was a long morning of intense competition as each team played four matches in the group rounds, before a series of play-offs.

However, the winners were the Firey Jacks who scored 20 points.

Runners-up were Fifty Shades of Boccia from the Boston Tea Party social group with 18 points, Baschurch Red Robins were third with 17 points and The Derwen Warriors, from Derwen College in Gobowen, fourth with 16 points.

Students from NSC volunteered to referee the matches and run the tournament.

Many of the players were elderly or had a range of disabilities, giving the students a true experience of ‘inclusive sport’.

Oswestry Mayor Councillor Vince Hunt was on hand to present certificates to the NSC students to thank them for their hard work all morning, and gold, silver and bronze medals were presented to the winning teams.
