THE New Saints began the second phase of their league campaign in style as they hit six of the best against Port Talbot Town on Saturday. The Saints opened the scoring in the seventh minute when a precise ball through the middle by Matty Williams found Greg Draper who rounded Port goalkeeper Conah McFenton before slotting home from six yards. Saints’ lead was doubled in the 18th minute when Draper squared the ball to Scott Quigley who took a touch to control before firing a low right food drive into McFenton’s right hand corner from 25 yards. Craig Harrison’s side assumed full control and scored their third of the game in the 36th minute when Aeron Edwards fed Jamie Reed down the left channel, before pulling the ball back for Quigley who continued his rich vein of scoring form by smashing home from five yards out. With no signs of complacency among their players, Saints maintained their attacking approach in the second half. Substitute, Jamie Mullan created an early chance for Edwards who latched on to a through-ball but was unable to beat McFenton in a one-on-one situation. A rare chance for Port came in the 61st minute when Bond’s short corner on the right found former Saints winger Chris Jones whose cross found Liam McCreesh, whose shot from eight yards was blocked by Phil Baker before the rebound fell to Rhys Griffiths whose shot was blocked on the line by Kai Edwards. Saints made a double change in the 70th minute with Ryan Kershaw and Adrian Cieslewicz replacing Edwards and Quigley. The hosts struck their fourth in the 79th minute when Cieslewicz’s corner was only partially cleared, allowing Connell Rawlinson to fire a low left footed shot into the bottom corner. Just two minutes later it was 5-0 when Kai Edwards’ through ball was finished brilliantly by Mullan who hit a rasping right foot strike into the top right hand corner to leave McFenton helpless. Draper then added his side’s sixth goal deep into added time to secure an emphatic tenth straight victory for the defending champions. The Saints turn their attentions to the Welsh Cup on Sunday when they take on Gresford Athletic at Park Hall.  Kick off is at 12.30pm.
