Welsh Premier League
The New Saints 2, Prestatyn Town 1
THE New Saints’ race for the title reached fever pitch on Friday night as Ryan Fraughan’s dramatic last gasp winner over Prestatyn sparked a mass brawl in the centre of the pitch.
Fraughan struck deep into injury-time to move Saints four points clear at the top of the Welsh Premier League, but an otherwise well-contested game was marred at the final whistle amid ugly scenes which continued down into the players’ tunnel as stewards struggled to restore order.
Prestatyn boss, Neil Gibson, was one of those who had to be restrained in the melee, while Saints players and managers were subjected to verbal abuse from visiting fans as they made their way off the pitch.
Fraughan had given TNS the lead before Ross Stephens equalised, but with the game heading for a draw, the Stockport loanee sent home fans into raptures when he fired home a hotly disputed free-kick six minutes into injury-time.
