A group of 13 energetic young farmers from Whitchurch are cycling 100 miles in one day from Whitchurch to Blackpool in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity and the Severn Hospice.

The mammoth effort will start tomorrow (Thursday) is particularly poignant for the Whitchurch members after the club lost John Hollins last year, a former member who also sat on their advisory team.

Rachel Cooper one of the organisers and cyclists, says the group will be proud to ride out in his memory.

She said: "John was a huge ambassador for Whitchurch, someone who helped us endlessly over the years to make the club what it is today. It is our privilege to be riding in John’s memory."

Flossie Littlefair, who manages the Whitchurch Severn Hospice shop in High Street, added: "I am taking on this challenge in memory of my grandmother June who was cared for by the wonderful Severn Hospice team. They provide invaluable care and support to families suffering with terminal illness. The generosity of the local community has been overwhelming."

Their cycling group is made up of a few expert riders but most are riding novices who have bought bikes just to take part in the challenge.
