WEM Town Football Club have begun the search for a new manager after Ian Springthorpe's resignation this week.

The Wemites have endured a tough start to the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League season and are currently battling near the foot of the table.

A club spokesman said: "The committee of Wem Town FC yesterday accepted the resignation of manager Ian Springthorpe.

"We would like place on record our thanks to Ian for all the effort and hard work he has put into the team over the last 12 months.

"We are keen to appoint a replacement as soon as possible. Further updates will be announced in due course."

Meanwhile the club has received the green light to develop facilities at the Butler Sports Ground with a new temporary clubhouse and community venue planned.

"It's been a long journey to get this far and the club are looking forward to making a start on the project in the coming weeks," said a club spokesman.
