Councillors in Wem will discuss how they will appoint a new councillor at its full meeting to be held in Edinburgh House on Thursday.

The new councillor is needed after Clive Shingler stood down and members will have to decide how to progress.

It is a relatively short meeting, with only 14 items on the agenda include future matters and dates for the May meeting.

The meeting will begin with a period of around 15 minutes for public participation before receiving a progress report from the town clerk.

There are three planning applications to be considered; firstly, the building of a two-storey rear/side extension following demolition of existing extension at 80 Station Road.

There are also plans for the building of a single-storey rear extension at 22 Fothergill Way, Wem.

Finally, at Roseville, there is a proposal for a variation of condition Numbers two and seven, attached to Planning Permission 16/00994/FUL dated 09 November 2016 amended plans.

Councillors will be updated on and approve the council's accounts for the month as well considering quotes for repairs to play equipment and cemetery wall works.

There are two consultations for councillor consideration; firstly, a survey by the Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion on West Mercia Police's work in the area, in both town and parish councils.

There is also a survey from Shropshire Council on environment maintenance grants, which is set to be reviewed as per a request by the Shropshire Council’s Communities Overview Committee.

The review is being made as a result of Shropshire Council's current financial position and Wem Town Council has until May 21 to submit information as part of the consultation.

Councillors have four items of correspondence to consider, including a letter from Shropshire Seniors; revised draft work plans from Scottish Power Energy for their new work between Oswestry and Wem; Shropshire-Wide 20mph Campaign and Defend Our NHS.

The meeting starts at 7pm at Edinburgh House.
