The ninth annual Wem Spring Market returns this month (April 21).

It is organised by the Wem Combine Harvesters and will be the 17th market that the Harvesters have organised. The market has grown year-after-year starting from just 10 stalls at the first event to 60 that will be showing in a few weeks, and applications from traders have exceeded the number of stalls available even though the market has been extended to three sites.

From 9am to 1pm there will be local food, drink, crafts and plants along with a spinning demonstration in the Baptist Church and a raffle in the town hall. For refreshments you can find a coffee morning also being held in Baptist Church. A walk around Wem will be led by local historian, Tom Edwards, which will start at 2:30pm.

One of the Combine Harvesters, Pete Jenkins from Wem and District Garden Club said: “Shoppers asked for more food and drink stalls at the last market so we have increased the number of sites so that we didn’t reduce the plant and craft traders. The Baptist Church is ideal since it is between the two existing sites.”

Another Harvester, Margaret Pyle from Incredible Edible in Wem added: “We are pleased that we have managed to widen the range of crafts and plants available as well. Incredible Edible and Wem Garden Club will also be available to advice growers.”

You can expect to find a range of traders from the local area including Border Honey, Berriew Cider, The Butchery, Caroline's Classic Cakes, Vermeulens, Wem Civic Society and Wem and District Garden Club.
