People in Wem can learn more about the potential development of the old Westlands site on Monday.

There will be a public event held in the Roden Suite at Edinburgh House in Wem between 1.30 and 4pm.

The development is set to be built on the old Westlands residential home, which was forced to close in March 2015 after it was revealed it had been losing around £25,000 a year for around five years.

Demolition work on the site started around 12 months ago and plans for the new development – which will be called Vaughan Place and will be managed by Meres and Mosses Housing Association – are for 11 one-bed and nine two-bed apartments with 12 two-bed bungalows as well as relevant car parking spaces.

Wem council supported the application, which was passed by Shropshire Council, provided they would add extra car parking spaces if there was need, plus maintaining pedestrian access through the development.
