Councillors in Wem will receive an update on a meeting with North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson regarding a potential relief road.

The road is part of an ongoing consultation for residents in the town, as well as the future of housing in Wem.

The meeting, held on November 10, will be reported back to councillors at their full council meeting on Thursday (7pm) at Edinburgh House.

Other items on the agenda include planning applications for repairs and remedial works to include re-pointing to rear elevation; treatment of exposed woodwork; treatment of lead work at 52 High Street.

Also, at Lyndale, in Fir Tree Lane, Wem, there are plans for the building of a single-storey side and rear extension.

Councillors will also discuss the youth commissioning consultation and feedback from a meeting held today on the Wem Town Hall Trust.

Plans will be made to hold a brainstorming session on Wem Commercial Generation while correspondence about Shropshire Council Policy and the future of bus services in the county will be heard.

nThe Wem Civic Society held its November meeting this week at the Senior Club.

More than 40 people attended to heard Penny Ward give a very well-received talk on the Flaxmill Maltings in Shrewsbury.

The history and future plans for the buildings were covered. Stan Platt of the Brewery History Society also attended and gave members information about that organisation.

The new vintage of Wem Apple Juice will be available for sale from the Wem Civic Society stall in the Baptist Church during the Wem Winter Fayre on Friday December 1 from 5pm to 9pm.

Wem Civic Society’s Christmas Social will be on Tuesday December 19 in Wem Senior Club, Chapel Street.

Guests will be welcomed with an apple punch followed by a buffet. Quizzes and a raffle will accompany the buffet.
