Pupils from Bishop Heber School in Malpas recently concluded their political discussions with a visit to meet Wrexham MP Ian Lucas.

Year 12 and 13 students have met with individuals from across the political spectrum over recent months including talks with Liberal Democrat peer Lord Storey in October and Conservative MP Antoinette Sanbach in November.

Mr Lucas provided a fascinating personal insight into his own career that has seen him fight six elections, winning five in a row since 2001 and experiencing life in the Tony Blair and Gordon Brown governments and then in shadow government under Ed Milliband and his current place as a Labour backbencher and member of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.

Mr Lucas then spoke to some Year 13 students about their ambitions for university.

Student James Cutts said: "Ian Lucas educated us on many topics surrounding the current political climate, making it a good experience to meet him," while Edward Rumney added: "It was nice to meet Mr Lucas again and he gave us an invaluable insight into his role as an MP."

Teacher Joe Penlington commented: "It was an excellent and enjoyable experience for enriching the politics curriculum for all concerned."
