A BROOCH from a renowned Parisian jeweller was sold for £6,500 at Whitchurch's Trevanion and Dean on Saturday.

The beautiful blue zircon, yellow sapphire and diamond clip brooch was made by world renowned Chaumet, founded by Marie-Etienne Nitot, Napoleon's official jeweller.

"The use of wonderfully contrasting gems colours within a diamond set surround made this piece quite spectacular, and it was in its original case which made it even better," said Christina Trevanion, auctioneer.

"The clip was consigned by a Cheshire vendor who had inherited the piece through the family and had never worn it. The quality of craftsmanship and being completely fresh to the market, made this piece very desirable to the international market."

Telephone bidders, internet bidding and in-room bidders all tried to acquire the piece before it finally sold to a French telephone bidder.
