THE weekend’s third Cholmondeley Pageant of Power has been hailed a tremendous success with over 50,000 visitors enjoying the incredible spectacles on the track, in the air and on the water.

Highlights included the aerobatic daring of the Breitling Wingwalkers, a stunning display of Bentley cars and an awesome Spitfire flypast.

Event director James Hall said: “This year’s Pageant has exceeded all expectations.
“I calculated that we must have had over half a billion pounds worth of machinery here this year, including the Hermes 135 Eurocopter and alone, one of the pit lanes contained cars with a value of over £15 million.”

Saturday night’s firework concert featured the Manchester Camerata Orchestra and included a Lynx helicoper fly-past to Wagner’s ‘Ride of the Valkyries.’
An address was made by Lt Colonel Andrew Hadfield, Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment via a link from Afghanistan. Money was raised for Help for Heroes.

Over the weekend the military gave combat power assault demonstrations as soldiers from local TA regiments stormed enemy positions.

Mr Hall added: “The event has grown year on year and we are looking forward to raising the bar again in 2011.”

Whitchurch’s classic motorcyle racer Frank Jones took second place in the historic motorcycles class. After leading the class on Saturday, he was pipped at the post by 0.25 of a second in the final of the three runs on Sunday.
Whitchurch Round Table organised the car parking at the event this year.
