Toy Story 3: Woody and Buzz return!

Published date: 12 July 2010 | Published by: Reporter

There’s nothing better than seeing a familiar face and that’s exactly what Toy Story 3 will give you when it hits our cinema screens this summer. Once again, you’ll be able to follow Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Mr Potato Head and the rest of the gang as the toys embark on yet another adventure. Fresh from their exciting activities in the first two films, it’s time for you to catch up with the lives of Woody and Buzz in particular and see what they’re getting up to!

Back when the first Toy Story film was released in 1995, we knew nothing of Andy and the toys that he had in his bedroom. But once we first saw them come to life we became attached to them as an audience and wanted to learn more about the toys and what they were getting up to. By the end of the original film we had grown fond of Andy’s toys and each picked our favourite, whether that was Woody, Buzz or maybe even Rex.

Woody is the central figure in the first film and following two movies as he’s Andy’s original favourite toy. The sheriff is one of the main protagonists and as well as being the leader of the toys, he’s also got a love interest in the shape of Bo Peep. Voiced by Hollywood actor Tom Hanks, the cowboy represents the old guard and has long received the most attention from Andy, but things soon change.

The arrival of Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger, sees Woody’s position as the head of the gang threatened as Andy’s more interested in this shiny new toy that has loads of features. This results in Woody becoming jealous of the brash new toy that Andy’s acquired and sparks soon fly between the two characters. Accidently hitting Buzz out of the window, Woody realises that there’s room for both of them to be Andy’s favourite toy and soon sets about righting his wrongs.

After introducing us to the main protagonists, the first Toy Story film then follows Woody’s mission to rescue Buzz from next door neighbour Sid Phillips. After some near misses, Woody manages to save Buzz and the pair put their differences behind them, realising that there’s no need for them to clash and that they can instead become great friends.

The roles are reversed in Toy Story 2 as this time it’s Buzz’s turn to save Woody in the 1999 movie. Toy dealer Al Mcwhiggin has got his hands on the toy cowboy and it’s left to Buzz to lead the rest of the gang on an adventure to save his new best friend. Buzz and the rest of Andy’s toys go to the Tri-County area to get Woody back safe and sound to Andy’s bedroom.

Toy Story 3 will once again see the toys split up and it’s up to Woody to reunite the gang for a third time. Along the way we’re sure to be introduced to many new characters, but it’s the familiar faces of the main characters Woody and Buzz that is really getting everyone talking.
