KATHERINE Jenkins voiced soared and a packed Royal Pavilion listened in awe as this year’s Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod began in spectacular style.
Katherine admitted that she was quite nervous at performing in front of a home crowd but none of it showed in her powerful performance.
The stunning soprano sang an eclectic mix ranging from operatic classics to La Vie en Rose and Endless Love as well as of course a few Welsh numbers.
Running until Sunday this year’s festival will demonstrate that unique spirit that only Llangollen can unite.
In addition to Welsh singing superstar, Katherine Jenkins, Aston Villa’s number one fan and violin virtuoso, Nigel Kennedy is sure to wrap things up superbly in a mouth-watering Sunday evening concert.
In between there’s Karl Jenkins and Llyr Williams, One World, One Stage on Wednesday, Shine with Bond on Thursday, Only Men Aloud on Friday, and the Choir of the World final with the Cory Band on Saturday evening.
On Saturday choirs will be competing for only the fifth time for the coveted Pavarotti Trophy, which the great Italian tenor donated to the festival as a special mark of his and his father’s long association with Llangollen.
The day sessions started on Tuesday, with International Children's Day, which included the first presentation of the message of peace and goodwill from the children of Wales to the world.
This and poignant message will be repeated again on Saturday.
