WHITCHURCH Air Cadets proudly paraded through the town to celebrate their 25th anniversary, in possibly the largest youth gathering the town has seen.

They were joined by army cadets and squadrons from Malpas, Market Drayton and Oswestry, and the band from Sandbach Squadron.

Also in support were guides, beavers and cubs during the march along Green End and High Street, where they were  met by the High Sheriff of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner, and the regional commandant group captain Richard Allen who took the salute.

The parade continued up to St Alkmund's Church where the cadets were presented with a new banner by the Rector, Andrew Ridley.

A celebratory church service followed.

Flight Lieutenant Chris Simmons said he believed it was the largest youth gathering in Whitchurch ever.

"The parade was very impressive, the cadets looked magnificent and the day went very well," he said.

The Wing banner was carried by Cadet Cpl Alexandra Black and Cadet Cpl Bryony Chester carried the squadron banner. Cadet Cpl Sam Ellis took the church reading.
