MANY bin collections across Whitchurch - and the rest of Shropshire - were missed due to the bad weather, but residents are being assured by the council that their rubbish will be collected.
Icy and untreated roads have meant cancelled collection routes, but Shropshire Council and its waste contractors Veolia Environmental Services are working to get back on schedule.
Any uncollected waste will be picked up on the next scheduled collection day for that type of waste. ie. two weeks after the missed collection and on the normal scheduled day.
People should check their collection calendar if they are unsure which day this is.
While the extreme weather continues, additional bagged waste ('side waste’) of the same type of material that is in the bin will also be collected. ie. general household rubbish can be left along with the refuse bin, or additional garden waste and cardboard can be left alongside the garden bin.
The council says that residents may find that while their bins are being collected, their recycling boxes are left behind. This is because it is more difficult for the recycling crews to keep balance when carrying recycling boxes on icy pavements.
Any residents with any questions about their waste collections should call Shropshire Council’s customer service centre on 0345 678 9007, or visit the council website at www.shropshire.gov.uk
