HOMEOWNERS from across the region who are struggling with their mortgages are being offered help to see them through the recession.
Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) has appointed a mortgage arrears advisor to give free advice to people who are having a hard time making payments.
Howard Hillier, who has taken up the new position, has worked as a money advisor in the public and voluntary sectors since 1997.
He said: “I am excited to be delivering this new service offering free confidential financial support to people having trouble with their mortgages.
"Times are difficult but, by helping residents to deal with their financial problems, we hope to make a difference locally and keep more people in their homes.”
CWaC executive member for prosperity Cllr Herbert Manley said: “I am pleased to welcome Howard as the council’s new mortgage arrears adviser.
"This new post is a valued addition to the already existing service provided by the housing solutions team.”
Figures from the Ministry of Justice revealed that 29,516 mortgage possession orders were made in England and Wales in the third quarter of this year.
This figure is up by 24 per cent from the same period last year.
