A WHITCHURCH company have stepped in at the last minute, donating a  much-needed bandstand to this weekend’s Christmas extravaganza.

Organisers of the event, to be held in the town on Saturday, feared that the intended location for the festive light switch on and entertainments - the Bullring - may have to be changed due to the lack of stage facilities.

However, the issue was resolved after a phone call to tool hire company Cadstones, who offered to provide a professional mobile band stand free of charge.

Thanks to this donation, the event will now go ahead as planned.

Linda Bate, chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Commerce said: “We had  already advertised the event happening in the Bullring but, were it not for this bandstand, we’d probably have had to move the whole thing to elsewhere in town.

“We are very grateful to Cadstones - we called them up, explained the situation and  they said ‘leave it with us’. The following day they called to say that they would like to donate one for the day.”

Simon Winstone, of Whitchurchbased Cadstones said: “We were delighted to help out with this excellent community event. It promises to be a really good day.”
