ROOF work is desperately needed for an Ellesmere venue at the heart of the community and a fundraiser has been launched, says a senior club member.
Mandy Williams is secretary at the Ellesmere Comrades Club in Victoria Street and has launched a Just Giving page to help raise £500 to carry out vital repairs to the roof.
She says the damage has come from years of being left without ongoing work and believes that if they cannot raise the funds, the club’s future would be in serious doubt.
And she is calling on people in Ellesmere to once again show their community spirit and help hit the target, with £100 pledged so far.
“We’re a committee-run club and we make decisions like this as a committee,” said Mandy.
“The roof is showing signs of real wear and tear from previous committees who have not wanted to spend money and it’s about 50 years since it’s been done.

“It’s safe to say it’s in a bad condition and if people don’t support this fundraiser then there’s not going to be anywhere to go.
“We do everything – funerals, christenings weddings and we hold events for clubs like the Flamingo Lounge which holds discos for people with learning disabilities.
“We’ve got the Masons here which is big for us and we also host the Probus Club, Ellesmere WI, the Widow Club among others.
“Anyone who can help, please do.
“Whether you can only donate £5 or £10, at the end of the day, every little helps.
“And if you can’t donate through the Go Fund Me, then people can drop money into the club when it’s open.”

Its opening hours are from 5.30pm each weekday with 12 noon openings on Saturday and Sunday.
