WHITCHURCH coach Steve Brown promised his side would improve its discipline after tasting a 38-14 defeat in the second division of the West Midlands League.

The well-travelled coach said the side would be looking to improve that aspect of their game ahead of the weekend after being punished by a rutless Ludlow on Saturday.

The south Shropshire side opened the scoring with a 12th minute converted try only for the hosts to hit back with a try from hooker Jimmy Holland which Danny Nicholas converted to level.

However the home side conceded two penalties before the break as Ludlow established a slender 13-7 lead.

Ludlow started the second-half on top and increased their lead with a converted try.

The hosts responded with some fine forward play which resulted in Steve Bloor crossing for a try with Nicholas again adding the extras.

The remainder of the half proved a carbon copy of the first with the home side's lack of discipline punished with a penalty and a yellow card as the hosts were temporarily reduced to 14 men.

Ludlow seized the advantage and ran home two tries before sealing a comfortable victory with a third try late on as Whitchurch's tough start to the season continued.

Coach Brown said: "If we can stop the penalties and yellow cards we will produce a great game of rugby. Training this week will be concentrating on discipline, form and focus."

Whitchurch make the trip to Malvern on Saturday afternoon aiming to get their season back on track having lost two games on the bounce since their opening day victory.
