Whitchurch Alport’s impressive start to their Midland Premier League campaign gathered momentum with an unbeaten bank holiday weekend.

First to be put to the sword at the KMJ Mortgages Stadium were Wolverhampton Casuals and it took a second-half Alex Hughes penalty to settle the game after wasting a host of chances.

The Reds made the trip to Market Drayton Town for their local derby on Monday and once again battled to a slender victory with Dan Skelton the match winner at Greenfields.

Assistant manager Steve May said: "There simply has to be goals scored from other areas of the pitch.

"Both games should have been won by much higher margins but sides that we completely dominate, we haven’t finished them off when we look fantastic in the penalty box with one vital component missing.

"The search for players never stops as we recycle and improve the squad that we have already."

Saturday will see the club travel to Anstey Nomads in a first preliminary qualifier in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile Ellesmere Rangers bowed out of the Isuzu FA Vase with a first qualifying round defeat at Lye Town on Saturday.

Jamie Hands fired the Swans into a 22nd minute lead before the hosts replied on the hour through Joe Palmer.
