PUPILS in Malpas have been praised for their "outstanding results" and "resilience" as they received their GCSE grades.

David Curry, the headteacher of Bishop Heber High School in Chester Road, said performances across all subjects were strong and that many students exceeded their target grades across the subjects.

Particularly strong subjects included Art, Biology, Chemistry, Drama, English Language, Further Maths, Maths, PE (BTEC), Physics and Religious Studies where over 90 per cent of all grades achieved were grade 4 and above.

Mr Curry congratulated the pupils for their results and said he looking forward to welcoming them back for sixth form.

He added: "We are extremely proud that students from across the ability range have achieved great results which are a credit to them and demonstrate excellent progress, owing to the culture of hard work, dedication and commitment that the students have developed during their five years at Heber.

"We would like to thank the Year 11 students for their maturity in the way that they have coped with the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic.

"I would like to congratulate all of our students on their success and we are now very much looking forward to welcoming most of Year 11 back to our sixth form in September."

Caspar Walker, received 11 grade 9s and Madeline Connor received nine grade 9s.

Nerys Williams and Alfie Hughes received eight grade 9s respectively and Noah Pearson-Herbert and Emily Robinson received seven grade 9s.

These results put them in the top one per cent of all pupils nationally.

The head of Year 11, Mrs Dermody congratulated the students and wished them the best in the future.

She said: "These are an exceptional set of GCSE results that demonstrate the dedication and determination of both students and staff alike. "The results are particularly pleasing considering the backdrop of two years of disruption and uncertainty.

"Students of all abilities can be proud of their achievements.

"Heber has a long history of success and this cohort of students have continued to build on previous achievements.

"I am very confident that the results today will enable our students to take the next step in fulfilling their personal ambition for post-16 education and I wish all the students the best for the future."

The new head of sixth form, Mr Garnham added: "I am looking forward to welcoming most of our Year 11 back to our Sixth Form to continue their learning, where we are confident they will flourish.

"Our excellent Sixth Form results reported last week, together with these very encouraging results demonstrate that Bishop Heber High School continues to offer exciting and successful learning opportunities for all young people."
