Veterans and residents in Whitchurch, Wem, Malpas and Ellesmere came together last Sunday to remember those who have given up their lives in battle.

There were parades across all the towns and villages in the area as the fallen soldiers of both world wars were commemorated.

In Whitchurch, Rose Snell led the parade with the British Legion standard after arriving back from London in the early hours where she had taken part in a celebration at the famous Albert Hall.

She was joined at the cenotaph in Station Road by North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson and town Mayor Councillor Tony Neville.

Cllr Neville’s Wem counterpart Cllr Edward Towers led the led the way in the town’s parade as Ruth Wilson played the Last Post for the gathered crowd.
