A GIANT Easter Egg is to be raffled at the first car boot of the season at Dearnford Lake on Sunday, April 2 to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Action.
The car boot will be supporting the Whitchurch group of Ovarian Cancer Action – set up in memory of Whitchurch woman Debbie Barlow who died at only 49 from the disease.
Debbie herself was a massive fund raiser for the charity, and the Whitchurch branch has gone on to raise tens of thousands of pounds since its foundation about two years ago.
Nicola Rogers, a friend of Debbie’s, was also out selling draw tickets at Whitchurch’s Civic Centre last Friday and says the work is all in her memory.
She said: “We started up this group because Debbie was a close friend and she was involved since it was set up.
“We’ve raised more than £11,000 in a year.”
Lynn Leigh, another group member who works at Dearnford Lake, added: “It is a fantastic Easter Egg, beautifully decorated, and we are charging £1 a ticket with the draw to be made on April 13.
“There are many other prizes in the raffle, and we will also be having a pitch at the car boot as well to sell donated items.”
The car boot at Dearnford Lake will now be held on the first Sunday of every month up until October supporting different local charities. There are revised opening times: gates open to stallholders to set up from 9am, and to the public at 9.30am.
Sellers fees are: Large vans £12; Small vans, cars, 4x4s, £8; trailers, £3. Admission to the public is £1 for adults with children free.
