Another roller coaster week at Yockings Park for table-topping Whitchurch Alport

IT’S BEEN another roller coaster week at Yockings Park with two more games played in this amazing season.

The long-awaited City of Liverpool game on Tuesday night more than lived up to expectations – on and off the pitch.

Two teams occupying first and second going into the fixture put on a great show for a record crowd, with the Merseysiders stealing the points when a late penalty broke the hearts of a fully-committed Reds side.

A weekend clash at home to Stockport Town was always likely to be an “after the Lord Mayor’s Show” kind of afternoon, and so it proved – though Alport took the spoils with a 2-1 victory.

Director of football at Yockings, Lea Edge, gave the Herald his thoughts after what has been a significant period in the club’s history: “Expecting a good crowd is one thing but to get more than 600 into the ground is incredible.

“It’s hard to find the right words to describe everyone’s emotions up here. As a club we asked for backing from the locals and we got it in spades.

“To have nearly 500 people here from town is a quite remarkable achievement, and although we were very unlucky to lose the game they were very well entertained.

“As for the game itself, the simple fact is we failed to take our chances when it really mattered.

“We produced the opportunities to easily win the game before half-time."
