Police tsar coming to town

PLANS to keep a base for Whitchurch policemen in the town are being made in light of the announcement of the closure of the police station.
Whitchurch’s Shropshire councillors Peggy Mullock, Gerald Dakin and Tom Biggins met Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Bill Longmore in Shrewsbury and put the case that the town should have an alternative base for police available.
Mr Longmore has agreed to come to Whitchurch and take a look around the town.
Cllr Mullock said Mr Longmore agreed to work with them to keep a police presence in the town.
“He was concerned Whitchurch is to get 1,000 new houses in the next few years, which means a lot of extra people will be living here,” she said.
“Mr Longmore says he will talk to the chief constable about Whitchurch. When he comes we will look at possible places for police to be based here.
“We want to have somewhere where people can go and speak to the police - people are becoming worried that there won’t be a policeman around.”
